The sixth of seven children, Paul’s family emigrated to Canada from Paisley, Scotland when he was just 2 years old. He returned to Scotland during his early teens for a few years before settling back in Canada. Paul has a degree in teaching and while studying at Brock University in Toronto, was part of their national championship winning wrestling team. After graduating the actor began his career teaching theatre in Toronto, squeezing in time to attend auditions, he finally made the move to Vancouver where he’s worked extensively in film, TV and theatre. Paul is best known for the role of ‘Dr. Carson Beckett’, the lovable Scottish physician on ‘Stargate: Atlantis’. Upcoming projects include JJ Abram’s ‘Alcatraz’, SyFy’s ‘Hansel’ starring in the title role, the JK Rowling story playing JK’s Dad ‘Pete’ and new pilot ‘Captain Starship’ that Paul also co-created.
Film and TV credits include JJ Abrams blockbuster ‘Star Trek’, ‘The Traveler’ with Val Kilmer, ‘Confined’ with Emma Caulfield, ‘The Deal’ with Christian Slater and the multi-award winning ‘See Grace Fly’ as well as short film ‘A Fine Young Man’ which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews and recently won Leo Awards for Best Short Film and Lead Actor for Paul.
Television credits include recurring and guest starring roles in ‘Sanctuary’, Fox’s hit series ’24′, ‘Supernatural’, ‘Endgame’, ‘V’ and ‘Smallville’. Theatre credits include leading roles in the sold-out run of ‘Reservations for Four’, ‘The Foreigners’, ‘Piano’, ‘Savage in Limbo’, ‘El Salvador’ and the Jessie nominated ‘Reservations for Two’ which McGillion also produced and directed.
